Two weeks to go until Team Gateshead take on the GLL Northern Club Games

In 20 years of GLL’s Club Games, over 20, 000 people have participated in the biggest celebration of recreational senior sport in the calendar. The Northern event is part of a series of regional events happening across the UK this year, with the London and Northern Games taking place on 21st October. The Northern Games will see Gateshead, Newcastle, Penrith, Carlisle, York and Preston take part this year, with over 180 participants set to descend on Penrith Leisure Centre.

The Club Games is a multi-sport event for all members and customers of Better centres aged 60+! The northern event will have the following events included:

·         Walking Netball

·         Pickleball

·         Badminton

·         Table Tennis

·         Bowls

·         New Age Kurling

·         Boccia

·         Timed Cycle

·         Dominos

Active ageing is a major public health priority as it promotes improved physical and mental health whilst helping reduce social isolation in the UK’s older population. The games is for older people to come together in a social and friendly environment, play competitive sport and encourage participants to be active in later life. The Games began with a simple idea: to give older adults the opportunity to compete, connect and represent their communities through sport.

The senior games is an extension of our well attended senior sessions with many sessions across Gateshead. More information on our senior sessions can be found below.
