Free Parks Tennis is Huge Hit in Gateshead

LTA Free Parks Tennis offers a great way to try tennis for free with all equipment provided. Delivered by We Do Tennis volunteers in Saltwell Park every Sunday 10am-11am, the session started in March 2026 and since then has seen 171 people come along.

The sessions are a great introduction to tennis for first time players and those who want to give it a go, in a fun, friendly environment. Moving forward, the goal is to build the tennis community taking part, the number of volunteers helping to deliver, and set up sessions in the other parks in the area.

One person said ‘Since starting LTA Free Parks Tennis this summer, me and my family have become keen tennis fans, due to the availability of great condition courts and help/ guidance given to us by way of enjoyable games during the session. It really has been a fun experience and met lots of friendly people along the way, we have found this session to be the ideal entry point to the game'
