Who is taking over the running of Wycombe Rye Lido?

GLL, a not-for-profit social enterprise and one of the UK’s largest leisure operators will be taking on the management of Wycombe Rye Lido, operating under its ‘Better’ brand. GLL already operates nearby leisure facilities including Prestwood Gym & Fitness Centre, Henley Leisure Centre and Hillingdon Sports & Leisure Complex. For more information visit: www.better.org.uk

Why are they taking it over?

Buckinghamshire Council needed to find a new operator for the Lido because the previous operator – Fusion – went into administration earlier this year.

When will they take over?

GLL will take on the management of Wycombe Rye Lido on 1st July 2026. The Lido will be closed for a 24hr period and will reopen to the public on 2nd July 2026.

What will be put in place for customers during the 24hr closure period?

While the Lido is closed on 1st July 2026 customers will be offered free access to neighbouring Better facilities: Prestwood Gym & Fitness Centre, Henley Leisure Centre and Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Centre.

How will this impact staff?

Staff have been briefed on the changes and will be transferred across to GLL employment via the standard TUPE process.

How will this impact customers?

There should be a seamless transition across to GLL. All our members will be contacted via email. Memberships will become ‘Better’ memberships, with access to the Better website and Better app. There will be no increases to the cost of membership for current members.

Will the programme of activities change?

Initially the activities programme will stay the same, however we hope to expand this, introducing longer opening hours and a wider range of options later in the year.
