New Walking Football Session Continues to Grow at Yarborough Leisure Centre
A new Walking Football session at Yarborough Leisure Centre is proving a success, with participation continuing to increase as the group prepares for its third monthly session.
Launched in June, the session takes place on the first Monday of every month from 10.30am-12pm and is led by U3A Interest Group Facilitator Gareth McCormick, with support from the team at Yarborough Leisure Centre.
Designed to be inclusive and welcoming, the group encourages people of all abilities and experience levels to get involved. This session is a non-contact version of the traditional game, making it an enjoyable and accessible way to stay active, improve fitness and meet new people.
Each session begins with a structured warm-up led by Gareth, followed by a range of football drills and skills-based activities. Players then put their new-found confidence into practice during a friendly small-sided game to round off the session.
The growing popularity of the group highlights the appeal of Walking Football as a fun, social activity that promotes both physical and mental wellbeing. Whether participants are returning to football after many years away from the sport or trying it for the first time, everyone is welcome.
