Market Road ATP played host for African Development Trust (ADT) charity tournament of ‘Play for Somalia’ on Sunday 16th April 2017 that was organised by the local Somalian Community for the first time.
The event was well organised with all aspects being consider...from ADT staff being in correct uniform, to provision of stewards and security teams, assisting with participants and spectators alike.
Although the weather was a little cloudy, it didn’t stop 32 teams from across London and around the UK arriving to compete with over 400 participants and a large spectator support. Each team paid an entry fee and spectators were asked to provide a minimum contribution of £2 or what they could afford, in order to raise money for the day.
The tournament consisted of a round robin format to choose the seeding for the knock out stages. These stages provided all the typical drama of the beautiful game with several decided by last minute goals or the dreaded penalty shootout. In total there were 64 matches played and more than 154 goals scored over the event.
Finsbury Park versus Tufnell Park made up the final with Finsbury taking the Top Honours Cup and Tufnell with the runner up plate.
