Cool Down at Kensington Leisure Centre
Cool down with GLL at Kensington Leisure Centre during the hot summer months. Here at Kensington Leisure Centre we have means to keep you cool. We have water taps throughout the building and tap water available at the Café. We have an air conditioned gym so you can stay cool as your work out heats up. There is a cafe serving cold drinks and refreshments and of course our swimming pools. Where could be better to cool off than in one of our pools on a hot day.
Kensington Leisure Centre is registered as a Cool Space where the public can come in if they wish to get respite from the heat, with access to tap water at the cafe.
Tips for staying cool in the heat include...
- Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even before you feel thirsty, to prevent dehydration and heat-related illness. Include electrolytes if you are sweating heavily or exercising outdoors
- Wear loose, light-colored, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen to allow airflow and reflect sunlight.
- Use wet clothing or damp bandanas to cool your body through evaporation, especially in dry climates.
- Protect your head and neck with wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and cooling scarves or bandanas
- Take cool or lukewarm showers to lower your core temperature.
Apply cold packs or damp cloths to pulse points like the neck, wrists, and inner elbows for rapid cooling. - Use cold drinks or ice slushies to cool your body from the inside out.
Sleep with cool pillows or cotton sheets to improve nighttime comfort. - Monitor heat alerts and weather forecasts to plan activities and avoid dangerous conditions
- Check on vulnerable individuals, including children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses.
- Know the signs of heat-related illness: dizziness, nausea, excessive sweating, confusion, or rapid pulse. Seek immediate help if symptoms of heatstroke appear.
- By combining hydration, protective clothing, environmental adjustments, and personal cooling methods, you can significantly reduce heat stress and stay safe during extreme temperatures.
