GLL Sport Foundation (GSF), in partnership with Lambeth Council’s Gifted and Talented Programme, supports talented athletes who live, train, or are educated in the borough. 2019/20 saw 108 athletes funded with £59,700 worth of support. All the athletes are local and many use Better facilities, whether that is for their sports sessions or their strength & conditioning and fitness training.

 

ATHLETE OF THE MONTH – NOVEMBER 2019

We are pleased to announce that the November Athlete of the Month winner is Mallory Cluley (Athletics) who capped a wonderful season performing at the Euro Junior Inter Clubs Championships in Leiria, Portugal helping her team secure an excellent 2nd place. Throughout the summer season, Mallory competed at the sprint hurdles 28 times including representing England U20 women at the Welsh Athletics International and Youth Nations Cup in Dublin. Her sublime performances have seen her rise to a ranking of 4th in the UK for 100m hurdles.

 

OTHER RESULTS

INTERNATIONAL:

Atl Ongay-Perez (Figure Skating) and his skating partner recently returned from their first international competition this year at the Hungarian Halloween Cup 2019 in Budapest. The competition provided them the grounds to test their routine for the upcoming season. They performed 3 dances: “the Fourteen Step” (5th), “the Tango (3rd), and a free dance routine (3rd). Overall, with all their combined scores they won a bronze medal against some very tough competition from the Russian and German teams. Atl and his partner have even more opportunities to showcase their fantastic abilities with international competitions coming up in Latvia and Andorra.  Adam Adaman (Judo) who fights in the U81kg category backed up a superb bronze medal which he secured at Commonwealth Judo Championships held in Walsall with another bronze as he battled to an excellent 3rd place at the Welsh Senior Open International Competition in Cardiff.

 

NATIONAL:

Robyn Le Friec (Swimming) competed at the National Masters Championships in Sheffield at Ponds Forge where she became national champion in the 25-29 year age group in both the 200m freestyle and the 200m butterfly. Impressively, Robyn also won a gold medal in the 4 x 50m medley relay, a silver medal in the 4 x 50 freestyle relay and a bronze in the 100m butterfly for her age group. Oliver Wollaston (Cycling) achieved an excellent 6th place in the 3rd Category Full Gas Winter Circuit Series Event Race, whilst Zachary Crowther (Pentathlon) secured a fantastic 13th place in the South of England AA Relay Championships.
