Wimbledon Leisure Centre & Spa is very proud to have been named as a finalist in the UKactive awards. This is a prestigious industry award, with many competitors from across the industry vying to win come the awards night in late June.

The 2018 award categories have been divided into three groups, business excellence, specialist impact and individual achievement.

In total, winners will be announced in 11 different categories, with the team from Wimbledon Leisure Centre & Spa hopeful about achieving the leisure centre of the year award for 2018.

Replacing the Flame Awards, this year's edition will feature an expanded Leisure Centre Operator of the Year award, which covers any club or centre, from independents, studios and boutiques to budget gyms, local authority centres and clubs that are part of a nationwide chain.

The awards recognise various categories, such as; facilities, suppliers, operators, educational institutions, health practitioners and large corporations that have demonstrated exceptional standards, highlighting the work they do promoting physical activity, it’s benefits and the impact it will have on people’s lives.

There will also be a renewed focus on individual achievements, with three categories dedicated to people working in the physical activity sector, those are: Physical Activity Champion, Outstanding Leader of the Year and the Unsung Hero Award.

There were various stages involved in the lead up to the centre receiving its nomination. The team firstly submitted an application, after that member surveys were completed, with it great to hear that so many of the members are happy with the services the team delivers for the local community.

The next stage will see a mystery visit completed by one of the judges, with the team very optimistic that all will go well.

Commenting on the nomination, the centre’s General Manager, Tom Casson said ‘‘Myself and the team are over the moon to have been nominated for such a highly regarded award, the team have worked so hard over the last 12-18 months and this nomination is a reflection of the positive environment we have managed to cultivate for our staff, members and surrounding community’’.

The awards night will take place during the Active Uprising event in Manchester on the evening of 21st June.
