Weeks of exams at Sugden Sports Centre have officially come to an end, marking the conclusion of a busy assessment period for thousands of University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University students.

Throughout May and June, the sports hall was transformed from a sporting venue into an examination spaces. Rows of desks filled the hall as students from a range of disciplines gathered to complete their end-of-year assessments.

For many students, walking out of Sugden after their final exam brought a sense of relief and accomplishment following months of lectures, coursework and revision. The venue became a familiar sight during the exam season, with long queues forming outside before morning and afternoon sittings.

“It feels strange knowing I won’t be coming back here for exams,” said one final-year student. “Sugden has basically been my second home over the last few weeks.”

University staff and invigilators worked throughout the examination period to ensure assessments ran smoothly, supporting students during one of the most demanding parts of the academic year.

With the final papers now completed, attention turns to summer plans, graduating students look ahead to receiving their results and attending graduation ceremonies later this year.

As desks are cleared away and the sports hall returns to its usual purpose, the end of exams signals the beginning of summer for Manchester’s student community — and a chance for thousands of students to take a well-deserved break.
