Leatherhead Leisure Centre is supporting Restart a Heart Day on Friday 16th October, working alongside St John Ambulance to help raise awareness of CPR and the importance of knowing how to respond in a cardiac emergency.

St John Ambulance will be at the centre from 10am to 5pm, providing CPR and defibrillator (AED) demonstrations and giving members, staff and visitors the opportunity to learn more about these potentially lifesaving skills.

The event is particularly meaningful for the Leatherhead team, as the centre has experienced two separate incidents where CPR was required and carried out. Having been involved in both incidents, Assistant Manager Stuart Campbell has seen first-hand how important it is for people to feel confident in responding to an emergency.

These experiences have reinforced the importance of CPR awareness, access to defibrillators and ensuring people understand the difference they can make in a critical situation.

Restart a Heart Day provides an opportunity to encourage more people to learn basic lifesaving skills and understand that taking action in an emergency can help save a life.

Stuart Campbell, Assistant Manager at Leatherhead Leisure Centre, said:

“Having been involved in two incidents at the centre where CPR was needed, I’ve seen first-hand just how important it is to know what to do in an emergency.

“It really brings home that these situations can happen anywhere, including places like our leisure centres. We wanted to use Restart a Heart Day as an opportunity to raise awareness, give people the chance to learn more about CPR and defibrillators, and help our members, staff and local community feel more confident about stepping in when it matters.

“We’re really grateful to St John Ambulance for supporting us and helping us spread this important message.”

The team hopes the event will encourage people of all ages to take an interest in learning CPR and understanding how to use an AED, helping to build a more confident and prepared local community.

Leatherhead Leisure Centre would like to thank St John Ambulance for its support and for helping make these important lifesaving skills more accessible to the community.
