Walking Cricket Plus Launches at Leatherhead Leisure Centre
Walking Cricket Plus Launches at Leatherhead Leisure Centre
Leatherhead Leisure Centre is proud to introduce Walking Cricket Plus, a brand-new, inclusive and social activity session designed especially for our senior community developed and led by our team member, Alison.
Taking place every Tuesday morning, this two-hour session offers much more than just cricket, creating a welcoming environment where participants can stay active, socialise, and try a variety of activities.
The idea was driven by Alison, who, through conversations with customers around the centre, identified a group regularly booking Mole Barn for Walking Cricket. However, the venue presented challenges due to dim lighting and cold winter temperatures.
Recognising an opportunity to enhance their experience, Alison worked to bring the session indoors into our Sports Hall. With available space, she expanded the concept into a multi-activity morning, ensuring there was something for everyone.
The session now includes:
- Walking Cricket (Half Sports Hall)
- Pickleball (Dedicated Court)
- Table Tennis (two tables)
- Additional Pickleball and Badminton courts in the final 30 minutes
Importantly, the session is open to all, not just cricket players, making it a fantastic option for anyone looking to stay active in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Alison also reached out to Surrey County Cricket Club, who have been incredibly supportive. As part of their commitment to community initiatives and Walking Cricket, they have kindly provided the centre with a full Walking Cricket kit.
The session has already proven to be a great success, with fantastic feedback from participants highlighting both the activity and social elements of the morning:
“Thanks for a fun morning all, pickleball skills need work for me!”
“Very enjoyable morning – thanks to the organisers”
“Thanks for organising a great morning!”
“Fully agreed – great fun”
Beyond the activity itself, the session has created a strong sense of community, with many participants staying afterwards to enjoy a tea or coffee together in the café.
