Both Joy and Stephen Morgon who have been instrumental in ensuring the Hykeham Hedgehogs and Sleaford Walking football teams, Snails and Academicals we’re shortlisted in October for a North Kesteven Community Champions Award for their contribution to sport. On this occasion Joy came out on top as the eventual winner, but it’s fair to say we are extremely proud of both of them and thank them for all their commitment and hard work to making Walking Football in North Kesteven a big success.

In addition, in October Joy was given the honour of being selected to represent her country in the IWFF Over 50s England Womens Walking Football Team. Joy received her first cap on Saturday 2 November 2019 where she proudly pulled on the No 7 shirt in her the England colours to face Wales in Merthyr Tydfil.  Two Womens age groups and Three Men’s age groups were represented, will all five teams victorious. Joy no goes on to play in pre World cup Friendlies against Sweden and Chilli before the World Cup May 2020. Hugh congratulations Joy from us all at GLL.

With an aging population and the support of the FA, IWFF and WFA Walking Football is becoming one of the fastest growing sports for the over 40s in the country.  It’s benefits for physical and mental health for the older generation are second to none. Many of our footballers have come to us directly through GP referral or Cardiac Rehab pathways, or have been looking for a social group linked to their past times, at a more manageable pace.

The NK Sport and Health Team provide opportunities for Walking sports on a weekly basis with Walking Football taking place at ONE NK and BETTER Gym Sleaford and Walking Netball at ONE NK. We also offer the opportunity to play in our very own Walking Sport Festival in the Summer and Compete at GLL’s Club Games in London in September and October.
