Lower Gym and Changing Room Refurbishment

Thame Leisure Centre is set to benefit from a significant share of a £2 million investment in leisure facilities across South Oxfordshire, aimed at enhancing the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of council-owned centres. Funded through a combination of developer contributions (S106 and CIL), council capital budgets, and support from Oxfordshire County Council, this programme reflects a strong commitment to improving local health and wellbeing infrastructure.

At the heart of these improvements, Thame Leisure Centre will see major upgrades designed to transform the customer experience. The dry changing facilities will undergo a complete refurbishment, including both male and female areas as well as accessible toilets. These spaces will be modernised from floor to ceiling, with brand new fixtures including sinks, showers, and fittings throughout. Energy-efficient LED lighting and water-saving technologies will also be installed, ensuring the centre is both environmentally responsible and cost-effective to operate.

The project will also include the full refurbishment of the Lower Gym, to create a high-quality functional training space. This new area will feature a purpose-built rig and a wide range of brand new equipment, supporting diverse training styles such as strength, conditioning, and functional fitness. The redesign will create a more versatile and engaging workout environment for members of all abilities.

Scheduled over an 11-week period, these works mark an exciting new chapter for the centre. The improvements will significantly enhance the overall offer at Thame Leisure Centre, creating a more modern, inclusive, and inspiring space for the local community to enjoy.

We aim to keep distruption to a minimum, however during this period, the lower gym, gym corridor, and gym changing rooms will be fully closed. Customers are advised to arrive gym-ready where possible.

Alternative changing facilities, toilets, shower facilities and lockers will be available as follows:

- Poolside changing area: available throughout the day
- School changing / dry changing rooms: available from 5pm Monday to Friday and all day at weekends. These will be available all day on Bank Holidays and during half term (25–31 May).
