As Net Zero Week (4th–11th July) shines a spotlight on environmental action across the UK, leisure centres across Swindon are playing their part in building a more sustainable future through major investment and environmental improvements.

Working alongside Swindon Borough Council, Better has been involved in projects designed to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency and support the borough's environmental ambitions across local leisure facilities. These initiatives are helping to ensure that community leisure centres remain sustainable for future generations while continuing to provide high-quality services for residents.

One of the most significant recent investments has been the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels at Link Centre. The new solar panels generate renewable electricity on-site, helping to reduce reliance on grid energy, lower carbon emissions and improve the long-term sustainability of the centre.

The project forms part of a wider commitment by Better and Swindon Borough Council to improve the environmental performance of local leisure facilities and reduce their impact on the environment.

Alongside renewable energy projects, Better continues to work with Swindon Borough Council to identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency, encourage sustainable practices and help create healthier, more sustainable communities.

As Swindon continues its journey towards a lower-carbon future, these projects highlight how leisure centres can play an important role in tackling climate change, reducing carbon emissions and creating more sustainable communities for everyone.
