Wantage Leisure Centre Celebrates 50 Years with Special Open Weekend
Wantage Leisure Centre is proud to celebrate a major milestone this year as the centre turns 50 years old on Friday 22nd May 2026. For five decades, the centre has been at the heart of the local community, supporting residents of all ages with health, fitness, sport and wellbeing opportunities.
To mark this special occasion, Wantage Leisure Centre will host a celebratory Open Weekend from Friday 22nd May to Sunday 24th May, welcoming both existing members and new visitors to enjoy everything the centre has to offer. Throughout the weekend, guests can take part in a range of free activities including gym taster sessions, group exercise classes and the increasingly popular sport of pickleball.
Since opening its doors in 1976, the centre has played an important role within the local community, helping generations of residents stay active, social and healthy. From swimming lessons and children’s activities to fitness memberships and community events, Wantage Leisure Centre has continued to evolve to meet the changing needs of the town and surrounding areas.
Reaching 50 years is a fantastic achievement and reflects the continued support of local residents, members, partners and staff who have helped shape the centre over the past five decades. The team is delighted to be working closely with Vale of White Horse District Council to celebrate this landmark occasion and recognise the important role the centre continues to play in the community.
Adding to the excitement of the anniversary year, the future of Wantage Leisure Centre is also set to be strengthened through a significant £982,000 investment from Vale of White Horse District Council. Planned improvements include an extension to the gym, upgraded fitness equipment, refreshed interiors and enhancements to wet changing facilities, helping to create an even better experience for customers for years to come.
Centre staff are looking forward to welcoming the community through the doors for a weekend of celebration, activity and fun.
