Meet one of our customers: Sue

Sue first started swimming with us in April 2025 after many years away from the pool. At the time, she wasn't a confident swimmer and was looking to rebuild her confidence in the water. Just four weeks after returning, Sue experienced a frightening incident during a swim session when another swimmer doing backstroke accidentally collided with her. She went underwater and managed to grab the lane rope before one of our lifeguards came to assist her. Many people might have been put off swimming after an experience like that, but not Sue.

Determined not to let the incident hold her back, she was back in the pool the very next day. Although her confidence had taken a knock, Sue decided to take positive action and enrolled in our Adult Swimming Lessons three weeks later. Through regular practice and support from her swim teacher, her confidence and skills continued to grow. Sue is also keen to highlight the support she received from the wider team. From the lifeguards to the duty managers, everyone took the time to encourage her throughout her swims and regularly let her know how much she was improving. Their kindness, reassurance, and recognition of her progress helped her feel safe, supported, and welcome every time she visited the pool, giving her the confidence to keep pushing herself and achieving new milestones.

By November, Sue had achieved things she never thought possible. She was able to dive into the deep end, swim to the bottom of the pool to retrieve sinkers, and had significantly improved her breaststroke technique and timing. These achievements made a huge difference to Sue's enjoyment of swimming. What began as a nervous return to the pool became a rewarding and enjoyable part of her routine, and she now looks forward to every visit to the pool. Sue's journey is a wonderful example of how determination, perseverance, and the right support can help people achieve far more than they ever imagined.
