March Update - Badminton Coach Penny nominated for national award

Bath Sport and Leisure Centre badminton coach Penny Shears has recently been recognised as a finalist at the 2024 Community Sport and Recreation Awards for her services to badminton. Penny has volunteered her time for 35 years to help junior badminton with Yate Racketeers. Penny coaches weekly badminton sessions at Bath for adults and are seeking new members, no matter their previous experience. Regular class member June Wagstaff spoke very highly of Penny's classes and said "Penny is superb. She challenges you at your level and the group has helped me stay fit since I retired seven years ago. The group are very friendly and courses run all year round". For more information and to book, visit the website or reception desk.

We've also launched some new Foundation swimming lessons on Sunday mornings. Our Foundation swimming lessons are designed for school-aged children who are beginners or completely new to swimming. These lessons will teach them how to be safe in and around water.

What will they learn?

These classes are split into three levels of ability: Red, Amber and Green. Each level will cover basic skills and safety techniques including treading water, using buoyancy aids and how to perform shout and signal rescues.

By the end of this course, your child will be able to swim 25 meters unaided and have learnt the basics of all 4 strokes.

Also this week:

On Saturday 5th March, our staff and customers joined forces at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre to raise money for two great causes by taking part in a five hour charity Spinathon.  The event, which ran from 12:30-5:30pm raised funds for Cancer Research UK and a Bath Cougars Netball Club's U14 player who has recently been paralysed from the waist down.

Over £1,700 was raised for Cancer Research UK, whilst over £10,000 has been raised for the young netball player.

Donations of any size can still be made via our Cancer Just Giving page.

Donations to the U14 Bath Cougar netball player can be made here:
