As Net Zero Week (4th–11th July) shines a spotlight on environmental action across the UK, leisure centres across Bath & North East Somerset are playing their part in building a more sustainable future through major investment and environmental improvements.

Working alongside Bath & North East Somerset Council, Better has been involved in significant projects designed to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency and support the Council’s climate ambitions across local leisure facilities. These initiatives are helping to ensure that community leisure centres remain sustainable for future generations while continuing to provide high-quality services for residents.

One of the most significant areas of investment has been the installation and planned expansion of solar photovoltaic (PV) technology across key leisure sites in the area.

At Bath Sports and Leisure Centre, a new Solar PV system has been installed to generate renewable electricity on-site, helping to reduce reliance on grid energy and lower the centre’s carbon footprint.

Looking ahead, Keynsham Leisure Centre is set to benefit from a planned Solar PV installation being delivered in partnership with Keynsham Community Energy. The project will generate clean, renewable energy for the centre while strengthening collaboration with a local community-led organisation committed to supporting the transition to a low-carbon future.

Alongside these renewable energy projects, Better continues to work with Bath & North East Somerset Council to identify opportunities to improve environmental performance across its leisure estate and encourage sustainable practices among staff, customers and local communities.

As Bath & North East Somerset continues its journey towards a lower-carbon future, these projects highlight how leisure centres can play an important role in tackling climate change, reducing carbon emissions and creating more sustainable communities for everyone.
