Better leisure centres and gyms will host free sessions across Belfast as part of National Fitness Day 2026 on Wednesday 16 September 2026.

Coordinated by ukactive and delivered by its members including GLL, National Fitness Day celebrates the role of physical activity in supporting our physical and mental health. The celebration has an additional focus as Belfast continues to roll out a packed programme of sport and physical activity as part of its year as a European City of Sport in 2026.

Each year, an average of 10 million people take part in free activities offered by fitness, leisure and sport facilities across the UK as part of the campaign.
The theme of this year’s National Fitness Day is ‘Powered by you!’, highlighting that everyone can play their part in getting the nation moving more, from individuals and communities to businesses, schools and hospitals.  Gyms, pools and leisure centres continue to drive physical activity levels in the UK, with a record 12.2 million people now members of a health and fitness club, according to the UK Health & Fitness Market Report 2026.

All Belfast Better centres will host free taster sessions for non members.  To access these free sessions, simply create an account online or via the Better UK app
