Our new Bike Hub is coming soon. This exciting initiative is designed to get more people active by cycling, welcoming riders of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. Whether you’re looking to improve your cycling skills, take part in guided rides, or simply enjoy a safe space to store and maintain your bike, there will be something for everyone.
Our brand-new state-of-the-art 25m, 8-lane swimming pool and a 20m pool is perfect for lane and fitness swimming, family swimming, local schools and Better Swim School lessons.
Our fully equipped gym features the latest Technogym equipment, including the brand-new Excite Live cardio range. You'll find a variety of cardiovascular machines, resistance equipment, a free weight area, a functional training space, and a Group Cycle Studio for you to enjoy.
At The Sands Leisure Centre, we have three studios available for fitness classes. Two of our state-of-the-art studios are equipped with integrated music systems and Wexer Virtual Fitness software, offering dozens of virtual classes every week. This setup provides the opportunity to enjoy both instructor-led and virtual classes.
At The Sands Centre, our spacious Group Cycle Studio offers an extensive class programme, running seven days a week.
Our 4-court sports hall hosts a wide range of activities, including football, basketball, badminton, fitness classes, and more. It’s also home to our fantastic junior courses, featuring trampolining, football, gymnastics, and other exciting options.
We’re proud that The Sands plays a central role in community events across Carlisle and Cumbria. From regional sporting events and West End musicals to top-quality tribute acts and the annual seasonal pantomime, we’re delighted to be a vibrant hub of activity and entertainment for the people of this unique, historic city and the wider region.
The redevelopment project at The Sands Centre has allowed GLL to consolidate the existing arrangements with the North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust Musculoskeletal (MSK) team. The MSK team already provide treatment services at The Sands Centre but can now expand their services and develop new joint/collective treatment and rehabilitation activities with GLL and other partners.
The NHS provision is situated at ground level to provide easy access.
