Starting on Tuesday 14th January we are proud to tell you that we will have Wheelchair Rugby sessions taking place.
Gary, the Head Coach of Penrith Pumas, gave us some background to this brilliant new venture coming to Penrith Leisure Centre.
Gary was discharged on medical grounds from the Armed Forces back in 2000 after completing several tours in Bosnia and Iraq. Over the next few years and with the help of a military charity called Future For Heroes based in Ambleside, Gary got his life back on track following a difficult period.
Whilst watching the last Invictus Games in Sydney he decided that he was going to put himself forward for Team UK selection, he completed several training camps and a weeks trials in Sheffield, he won Gold in the trials he was very keen to keep training so took it upon himself to create the very first Cumbrian Wheelchair Rugby Club - Penrith Pumas WRC.
Sessions run from 7pm - 9pm and are open everyone age 16 years and over with all training and equipment provided. Come and give this amazing sport a go!
