As Net Zero Week (4th-11th July) shines a spotlight on environmental action across the UK, leisure centres in Enfield are playing their part in building a more sustainable future through major investment and environmental improvements.

Working alongside Enfield Council, Better have been involved in significant projects designed to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency and enhance local biodiversity in Enfield centres. These initiatives are helping to ensure that local facilities remain sustainable for future generations while continuing to provide high-quality services for residents.

One of the largest projects has been the (insert name) programme, which includes investment at Southbury Leisure Centre and Albany Leisure Centre.

Supported through the Enfield Council, Albany Leisure centre has delivered:

  • Installation of pressure gauges for pool filters so we can backwash when required and not as per a schedule - Water reduction
  • Controls have been added so we can turn off the AHU supply, so we do not use unnecessary heat areas.
  • Installed PIR so lights automatically turn on/off via a sensor

And at Southbury Leisure Centre:

  • New LED lighting on poolside installed - December 2025
  • x5 new pool filters installed for main pool & teaching pool, new pressure gauges to manage pool filtration.
  • VSDs installed for pool pumps to lower kWh output when turning on, also lowers the output when centre is closed.
  • Time schedules for AHUs implemented to lower output at night.

All other centres within Enfield, have had significant investment towards a lowering carbon emission. As Enfield continues its journey towards a lower-carbon future, these projects highlight how leisure centres can play an important role in tackling climate change, supporting biodiversity and creating more sustainable communities for everyone.
