Swim Sessions

At Edmonton Leisure Centre, we offer a wide variety of swim sessions designed to help you make the most of your time in the water - whether you're looking to stay active, unwind, or simply enjoy the experience of swimming.

Our sessions cater to all ages and abilities, providing the perfect environment to build strength, boost cardiovascular fitness, and enhance your overall well-being. Swimming is a low-impact, full-body workout that supports physical and mental health, making it ideal for everyone - from beginners to seasoned swimmers.

Whether you're gliding through laps in a fitness swim, enjoying a relaxed Swim for All, or splashing around with the family, there's a session tailored just for you.

Swim For Fitness

Our Swim for Fitness sessions are designed for individuals who want to stay fit, healthy, and enjoy the benefits of swimming. These sessions provide a great way to improve cardiovascular health, build strength and endurance, and tone muscles.

Experience the joy of swimming while staying active.

Duration: 60 minutes

Availability:

Monday - Thursday 6am - 9pm

Friday 6am - 6pm

Saturday and Sunday 8am - 4pm

Please note: Edmonton Leisure Centre is a 6-lane pool, where possible we will always ensure we have a double lane avaliable for each pace swimming lane.

Swim For All

Swim for all sessions are aimed at providing inclusive swimming instruction for individuals of all ages and abilities and focuses on creating a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.

Swim at your own pace and have some fun with family and friends. 

Duration: 60 minutes

Availability: 

Mondays

3.30pm - 6pm

Fridays 

3.30pm - 6pm

Saturdays

12.30pm - 4pm

Sundays 

9am - 4pm

Family Fun Swims

Here at Edmonton Leisure Centre, we believe that swimming should be fun and exciting for all the family. With sessions on offer such as Family Fun Swim & Aqua Splash there’s something for kids of all ages – and parents and carers too – to enjoy.

Duration: 60 minutes

Availability:

Monday 9.30am - 12.30pm and 3.30pm - 6pm

Tuesday 9.30am - 12.30pm and 3.30pm - 6pm

Saturdays

12.30pm - 4pm

Sundays

10am - 4pm

With additional sessions added during School Holidays and Bank Holidays

Welcome to Better Swim School, where we make learning to swim a fun and exciting adventure for all ages.We are passionate about water safety and empowering individuals to become confident swimmers. Whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your strokes, our certified instructors are here to guide you through every step of the way.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING THE POOL?

Swim Safety Rules

Please comply with the following rules:

  • Under 8’s and non swimmers 11-17 must be accompanied by a competent adult swimmer
  • No more than two under 8’s or non swimmers 11-17 to each  competent adult swimmer
  • The competent adult swimmer must actively supervise under 8’s and non swimmers 11-17
  • Under 8’s and all non swimmers must remain in shallow water
    We strongly recommend under 8’s and all non swimmers use armbands and/or an appropriate buoyancy aid

Advice to adult non swimmers:

It is recommended that non swimmers over the age of 16 are accompanied in the water by a competent adult swimmer.

Maximise Your Lane Swim Session

Lane Swimming Etiquette – Enjoy Your Swim, Respect Others

Our pool is used by swimmers of all levels and abilities. Please respect everyone’s right to enjoy their swim.

  • Choose the right lane for your pace – use the fast, medium, and slow lane signs, and observe the swimmers already in the lane to find your best match.
  • Be aware at turns – before pushing off the wall, check behind to see if a faster swimmer is approaching.
  • Follow lane directions – swim up and down on the correct side of the lane, as indicated by the direction signs.
  • Give space – try to keep at least 5 metres between you and the swimmer in front.
  • Mind your stroke – when the pool is busy, avoid wide strokes like butterfly or breaststroke. If you change to a slower stroke mid-session, consider moving to a more suitable lane.
  • Use of equipment – training aids like fins or hand paddles may be used at the discretion of the lifeguard and depending on how busy the lane is. Snorkels are permitted when used with standard swim goggles.
  • Be considerate when resting – if you’re pausing to catch your breath or finishing your swim, be mindful of others who wish to continue swimming without interruption.

Help Keep Your Pool Clean

  • Shower thoroughly from ‘top to toe’ with soap before entering the pool to remove deodorant, cosmetics and perspiration.
  • Use the toilet facilities before your swim and remember to wash your hands thoroughly with soap.
  • Babies should wear tight-fitting waterproof baby trunks whilst swimming rather than nappies.
  • Please dispose of nappies, trunks and sanitary products in the bins provided.
  • Do not swim if you have consumed a meal within the last two hours.
    Never swim if you have consumed alcohol or are under the influence of drugs.
  • Do not swim if you are currently suffering from a cold or flu.
  • Do not swim if you have suffered from food poisoning or diarrhoea within the last 14 days.
  • Please remove your footwear upon entering the changing rooms.
    Disposable shoes covers are available.

What swimwear is allowed in the pool?

All swimmers must wear clean and suitable swimwear. You can view our full guide to appropriate swimwear here.

Inappropriate swimwear includes:

  • Underwear or garments with offensive images or slogans
    Denim, cotton leggings, or other heavy materials
    Long, flowing clothing or loose-fitting t-shirts
  • Swimwear not made from chlorine-resistant fabrics, which may become damaged
  • For safety reasons, we recommend close-fitting swimwear, such as trunks or full swimsuits, especially for weak or non-swimmers.

Please note: Centre staff reserve the right to decide if swimwear is appropriate for use in the pool.
