On Friday 8th December Porchester Hall, London West’s premier events venue, hosted the 2016 GLL Swimming Teacher Conference for London. With GLL’s move to a regional structure in 2015 this was the first year the national Swimming Teacher conference was replaced by local events across the UK. The London event welcomed Swimming Teachers and Managers from both London West and London East Regions.

The Conference was led by the GLL Central Aquatics Team with support from local Aquatics Managers, the London West and East CSM teams and two GLL staff members who are ASA tutors. ASA Aquatics officers also attended the conference, providing an NGB update.

  • 84 staff members attended the day, travelling from all over London.
  • Kensington Leisure Centre won London West Swim School of the year 2015. (Horley, Jubilee and Gurnell Leisure Centres received special mention as close contenders)
  • The Greenwich Centre won London East Swim School of the year 2015. (Leyton, LAC and Leytonstone received special mention as close contenders)
  • Andrew Clark (National Sports and Aquatics Manager) delivered a National Aquatics Update.
  • Craig Parker and Claire Ruocco (Regional CSMs for London West & East Respectively) provided regional updates.
  • 17 Teachers completed their Multi Aquatics PDW.
  • 19 Teachers completed their Schools Swimming PDW.
  • 20 Teachers took part in a Demonstrations and Breaststroke Workshop.
  • 23 Swim Leads / Managers completed a Swim School Management PDW.
  • Other workshops offered to all teachers covered Body Language, Communication and Fun Swimming Lesson activities.
