On Saturday 29th January Britannia Leisure Centre helped to give back to the community by supporting The Ivy Street Family Centre.
The centre provide a hub for families in hardship, giving them a safe space. They are currently rebuilding their centre and have been crowdfunding and campaigning to raise the money. With a potential completion date of Easter 2022, they are now in the final stages of fitting everything out.
Britannia have previously supported the centre through the Christmas Giving Tree, which allowed customers to donate Christmas presents to families in need, as well as with a free soft play sessions for Ivy Street users. Continuing with this support Britannia pledged to hold a ‘Give Back Saturday’ where all takings from both online and in-centre income would go directly to Ivy Street. Better UK also committed to topping this amount up to £5,000 in total.
Using promotion through social media and the centre, we made our customers aware that the cost of their bookings was going straight back into the community. Staff members were also wearing promotional Ivy Street t shirts which encouraged members to donate to the project directly via text.
As well as donating proceeds, the centre also acted as a donation hub for Ivy Street’s Growbaby appeal, which encourages the public to donate baby clothes towards families in need.
The day received great feedback from customers and community alike, with the Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville promoting the support on twitter as an ‘amazing partnership’.
Director of The Ivy Street Family Centre Angela Large said:
'We are thrilled to be partnering with GLL Britannia, we are a small local charity working with young families and to have the support of a large organisation like the Leisure Centre means so much to us. It isn't just about the money raised, we are so grateful for the added publicity and practical support with the collection of baby clothes and equipment for Growbaby and the soft play sessions for our families. We gained 30 new followers on Instagram during the Give Back Saturday!
All the money raised will fund a sensory play room in our new building, we hope to run sessions for children with additional needs, giving their parents a safe space to bring them to play and socialise.'
For anyone who was unable to attend on the day and would like to donate to this incredible cause, you can text IVYSTREET TO 70085 to donate £5.00.
