A brand new session is coming to Finsbury Leisure Centre for people aged 60+.  Better Get Together is run in partnership with Age UK Islington; it is a relaxed sport social with the opportunity for a chat and a cup of tea.  Sessions start on 9th March and will run every Wednesday 10am-12pm in the sports hall.  Participants will have the chance to take part in a variety of sports, including badminton, short tennis and table tennis.

The session is part of a wider programme of 60+ activities across the Borough.  Sobell Leisure Centre has hosted a popular Better Get Together for a number of years, with around 40 people attending each week.   It is much more than just a sports session.  There is as much emphasis on the social side as on the activities. The variety of activities means that there is something for everyone.

Freed, a participant at the Sobell commented “It’s inspiring to see people in their 70s and 80s running around, full of energy! A few years back my GP told me that I was pre-diabetic and to get some exercise. I took their advice and after coming to the Sobell sports session and another exercise session once a week, my blood sugar levels went back to normal after 3 months.”

BETTER Community Sports Manager, Mikael Kiviniemi says “The Better Get Together at Sobell is a fantastic session; we are very excited to be bringing it to Finsbury Leisure Centre.  It is great to see people enjoying staying active and meeting new friends.  People can chat, enjoy a game of badminton, have a cup of tea and drop in for as long as they want”.

There is no need to book ahead, just come along and book on the day at reception.  Sessions cost just £2.10 per week.  If you would like more information please contact mikael.kiviniemi@gll.org
