Glass Mill Relaunches Over 60s Club Lewisham Programme
Glass Mill Leisure Centre has successfully relaunched its over 60s social afternoon with activities taking place every Wednesday between 11.30am and 2.30pm. Our relaunched programme offers a varied programme designed to promote fitness, teach new skills and provide social connections to help improve people's mental and physical wellbeing.
The weekly sessions provide a range of activities tailored to older adults. The timetable of the programme on Wednesday is a as follows
- 60+ swimming lessons from 11:30am to 12:15pm,
- Aqua Aerobics class running from 12:05pm to 12:55pm.
- A social tea and coffee gathering with biscuits is held between 12:30pm and 1:45pm, giving participants the opportunity to relax and connect.
- Mindfulness session from 1:45pm to 2:30pm.
Customers are welcome to attend just the social and there is no requirement to do any of the activities. All the activities are open to members and non members.
The sessions are delivered by experienced members of the existing Glass Mill Leisure Centre team. Swimming teacher Rob leads the aquatic activities, while Mindfulness instructor Michael delivers the Mindfulness classes as well as ensuring a structured and supportive experience throughout the day.
The relaunch has already generated positive engagement, with eight participants attending the social coffee afternoon, enjoying refreshments and conversation in a welcoming environment. We are really pleased with how the first session has gone and expect attendance to increase in the coming weeks as awareness of the programme spreads.
Following the social session, six attendees took part in the Mindfulness class, which is not something that has previously be on offer at the centre. This class was well received by those who attended.
Initial feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with attendees praising both the quality of the sessions and the opportunity to socialise. Glass Mill staff are optimistic that the programme will continue to grow, providing a valuable space for older residents to stay active, meet new people, and support their overall wellbeing.
The relaunch marks an important step in strengthening community engagement and promoting healthy lifestyles among older adults in the area.
To book the classes please visit our website or Better UK app, class bookings (subject to availability) can also be made in person in centre with a member of our team. Users don't need to book into the social and can just turn up on the day.
If you or you know someone who is over 60, we look forward to welcoming them next week.
