Earlier this month local Badminton Coach Henry Gaspard was reocgnised as Commitee Member of the year at Badminton England's annual awards.

Henry founded Black Arrows Badminton in Tottneham back in 1984 and now nearly 40 years later the club is still going strong delivering sessions for children, older adults, people with disabilities, colleges, schools and more across East London engaging with over 450+ people weekly.

A key part of that success has been Henry's partnership with GLL in Newham, where Black Arrows Badminton Club has helped expand opportunities for local young people to get involved in the sport.

Working with GLL, Black Arrows has successfully revived its junior badminton programme at East Ham Leisure Centre, with an average of 24 young people attending weekly sessions over the past year. Black Arrows also helped us by providing training for our London Youth Games squad who competed in the Badminton competition on the 14th June where they finished in joint 5th.

Henry continues to  coach in Newham, supporting junior and senior sessions while helping to grow participation across the borough. Through the partnership with GLL, Black Arrows is providing more opportunities for local residents to play, compete and develop, while inspiring the next generation of coaches and volunteers.

Henry's national award is a fitting recognition of his outstanding contribution to grassroots badminton and the positive impact his work continues to have on communities across Newham.
