In partnership with England Athletics and MCRactive, Manchester Regional Arena hosted the Manchester International athletics competition on Wednesday 18th August. On the day teams of athletes competed against each other representing their country (England, Scotland, Wales and Great Britain & Northern Ireland) in a full day of athletics competition across all athletics disciplines. England were victorious on the day but the competition held particular importance for all of the athletes who took part, in relation to possible select for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham 2022. A run down of all the days action can be found here: https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/news/manchester-international-report/

On the day, a very special unveiling took place of the world athletics heritage plaque which was presented by Sir Brendan Foster CBE and Peter Lovesey in honour of Emil Voigt, a former athlete of Manchester Harriers a resident club at the centre. MCRactive and GLL are now working closely with members of Emil Viogt’s family to achieve the plaque being permanently displayed in the centre.
