Member case study- Patricia Bakhtiary-Nejad
Background
Pat joined us at One NK with the goal of losing weight and ‘getting fit and healthy for 70’. After discussing her goals in a bit more detail, it was clear that Pat also wanted to improve her mental wellbeing since experiencing a hard time adjusting to retirement. Within the initial assessment, we spoke about different group sessions that would be beneficial for her physical and mental health
Although Pat was understandably nervous when she first started, she embraced the opportunity and gradually built her confidence. Throughout her referral, she gave every activity a go, stepping outside of her comfort zone and fully engaging with the sessions
Referral journey
Since joining, Pat has tried a variety of activities within the centre, including seated exercise, Healthwise circuits, and supervised gym sessions within our Health hub. As well as increasing her activity by attending classes, she has also increased her activity outside of the gym by walking more
At her final assessment, Pat said that she feels much fitter and healthier and is really proud of everything she has achieved. Alongside the physical improvements, she also spoke about the positive impact the programme has had on her mental wellbeing, saying that she feels much happier and more confident in herself
One of the most rewarding aspects of her journey has been the friendships she has made through the classes. She has become part of a small group of ladies who regularly attend seated exercise class together followed by a session in the Health Hub, and they even treat themselves to brunch together afterwards from time to time!
The Healthwise team at One NK can see a noticeable difference between the Pat that came in on her first week to now. Watching her become more self-assured and enjoy being active has been incredibly rewarding, and she should be extremely proud of how far she has come

“I used to struggle to do some of the exercises in seated, but notice I can do them now much easier!”
