National Sports Open Weekend 18th & 19th July
National Sports Open Weekend at The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre in Support of the Commonwealth Games
Local residents are invited to discover everything The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre has to offer as it opens its doors for a special Open Weekend on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July, from 10am-2pm, in support of the Commonwealth Games.
The event aims to bring the community together, showcasing the centre’s facilities, activities and welcoming atmosphere while encouraging people of all ages to get involved in local health, wellbeing and community initiatives.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the centre, learn about the wide range of services available, and find out how the venue supports local residents. Whether attending as an individual, family member or community group, everyone is welcome to come along and experience what the centre has to offer.
Throughout the weekend, a diverse programme of activities will be available for seniors, adults, families and juniors, offering something for everyone to enjoy. From health and fitness activities to family-friendly sessions, the Open Weekend is designed to showcase the variety of opportunities available at the centre.
A special highlight of the weekend will be a visit from Tatum Keen, Team England judoka competing in the -52kg category. The 24-year-old athlete from Bitton has recently been selected to represent Team England at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and has achieved a number of impressive results on the international stage, including a silver medal at the 2026 Tbilisi Grand Slam and a second-place finish at the 2025 Prague European Open. All activity sessions must be booked in advance prior to arrival. Bookings can be made via the Better UK App or on the Better UK website by selecting ‘Open Day’ from the activity listings.
The Commonwealth Games inspire participation, diversity and connection, celebrating communities coming together through sport, health and wellbeing. This Open Weekend provides the perfect opportunity for residents to engage with local organisations, discover new activities and celebrate community spirit while exploring everything The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Centre has to offer.
Activities available to book:
Adult & Junior Gym – Exercising together is not only a great way to stay fit and healthy, but it also gives you the opportunity to spend some valuable time together. Adult & Junior Gym sessions allow an adult to bring 11-17 year old juniors to the gym. Please be aware that an adult needs to supervise junior during the session.
Health Monitoring – Come and meet our qualified fitness instructors and have a go on our Technogym check-up machine, an AI-powered fitness assessment station that evaluates your body composition and physical capabilities to determine your "Wellness Age".
Pickleball - Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, played on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. Players use solid paddles to hit a plastic ball (like a wiffle ball) over the net. It can be played as singles or doubles and is known for its accessibility and ease of learning.
Badminton - Badminton is a great sport for everyone. From keeping you active and fit, it also provides the social aspect and allows you to meet new people. Badminton has many benefits; it will help you to improve your cardiovascular fitness, coordination, agility and flexibility
Table Tennis - Table tennis (or ping-pong) is a fast-paced racket sport where two or four players hit a lightweight ball back and forth across a net on a stationary table. Originating in 19th-century England, the sport requires quick reflexes, hand-eye coordination, and tactical spin variations.
Short Mat Bowls - Short mat bowls is an indoor, tactical variation of lawn bowls played on a portable 40–45 ft (12.2–13.7m) long mat. Players take turns rolling weighted, biased bowls closest to a smaller target ball, the jack.
Netball - Netball is a fast-paced team sport played by two teams of seven players. The objective is to score goals by passing a ball and shooting it through a raised hoop. Similar to basketball but with distinct rules, it prohibits dribbling or running with the ball, and players have strict positional zones
Health Walk - Walkers can enjoy a number of routes taking in the nearby countryside and local parks. When each walk is completed, there will be the opportunity to enjoy refreshments at the leisure centre’s café.
Swimbies Drop In - Our children and baby swimming lessons span from 3 months to school age. Our swim programme (called SWIMBiES) is the perfect way to help your child build confidence in the water that lasts a lifetime.
Kids swim for a £1 – A great way for the kid’s to burn of some energy in the water, kid’s swim for a £1 before 10:00am!
RSDA Drop In Sessions – Rugby Sports For the Disabled Association was founded in 1975. They Provide and promote sprot and recreation for disabled people living in and around Rugby., Warwickshire and the surrounding area. Catering for all levels and types of disability, including physical, sensory and learning. They have a wide range of equipment and experienced helpers who can provide tuition or practical help and offer the chance at participating in various sports and games.
Mind & Body Master Class - For those looking for a gentle way to workout and improve flexibility and balance, we also offer Pilates and Yoga classes. These classes will support not only your physical but also your mental health and allow you to rewind and relax.
Aqua Fit - a fun, low-impact group fitness class held in a swimming pool. It combines cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility exercises, utilizing the water's natural buoyancy and resistance to provide a challenging full-body workout while protecting your joints from high-impact.
