GLL's Link Centre supports underpass mural
West Swindon Parish Council has welcomed a striking new public mural by local street artist Jaksta Art to the Parish’s growing art trails, adding colour and creativity to a key pedestrian route near the Link Centre.
The mural, sponsored by GLL, has been installed in an underpass close to the Link Centre and is designed to improve the experience of people using the route. The artwork celebrates the wide range of sports and leisure activities available at the
Link Centre, including swimming, ice hockey and fitness classes, highlighting the importance of health, wellbeing and physical activity within the local community.
The project was developed following discussions between GLL and West Swindon Parish Council, with the aim of enhancing the local environment while also promoting the facilities available to residents. Alongside the mural, the Parish Council is investing in improved lighting in the underpass to help make the area feel brighter, safer and more welcoming for those walking or cycling through.
Cllr Graham Philpot, Chair of the Parish Community & Leisure Committee, said:
“A huge thank you to GLL for partnering with us. Murals make a real difference to our local spaces, and this one is a visual reminder of the opportunities for leisure activity and wellbeing right on our doorstep.”
The artist behind the mural, Nathan, who paints under the name Jaksta Art, said he wanted the piece to have a positive impact on people using the underpass.
“I wanted to make it bright to help put people in a positive mood when they walk through,” he said. “I’ve made it vibrant and colourful to try and make it really pop.”
The mural now forms part of the Parish Council’s art trails, which aim to celebrate local creativity and enhance public spaces across West Swindon. More information about the art trails can be found on the Parish Council’s website at www.westswindon-pc.gov.uk/west-swindon-art-trail
