Badminton Tournament at The Hatfield Leisure Centre

18 gents and 4 ladies entered the GLL Hatfield No Strings Badminton Singles Tournament on Sunday 8th September. All the players admitted they rarely play singles but that didn't prevent some excellent games in a lively competition.

The ladies all played each other in a group stage, and Maisie Sainsbury finished over all winner with Sue Warner finishing as runner-up. 

The gents played a group stage with the winners going through to the knock-out stages. The final was contested between Richard Szymczak and 14 year old Anish Deshpande. Despite Richard being 40 years older than his opponent, it was a close contest, but eventually youth prevailed, with Anish winning 21-16, and taking the overall winners medal.
