Net Zero Week In West Oxfordshire
As Net Zero Week (4th-11th July) shines a spotlight on environmental action across the UK, GLL leisure centres in West Oxfordshire are playing their part in building a more sustainable future through major investment and environmental improvements.
Working alongside West Oxfordshire District Council, Better have been involved in significant projects designed to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy efficiency and enhance local biodiversity in our centres. These initiatives are helping to ensure that local facilities remain sustainable for future generations while continuing to provide high-quality services for residents.
The largest project has been at Windrush Leisure Centre, which successfully went through the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (a Council run programme, funded by West Oxfordshire Council and grant funding). This involved removing the old boilers and Air Handling Unit’s, and replacing them with 11 new Air Source Heat Pumps.
Additional initiatives include the successful applications for Swimming Pool Support Funding at both Windrush Leisure Centre and Carterton Leisure Centre, where funding was received for Solar and new efficient pool covers.
As West Oxfordshire continues its journey towards a lower-carbon future, these projects highlight how leisure centres can play an important role in tackling climate change, supporting biodiversity and creating more sustainable communities for everyone.
