The initiative called ‘This Girl Can… Play’ is also affiliated with the government’s national This Girl Can project, which aims to tackle the fact that two million fewer women and girls aged 14-40 years take part in regular physical activity than their male counterparts.

‘This Girl Can…Play’ will run throughout the summer at Bartholomew Sports Centre Astro Turf Pitch every Wednesday between 7pm-8pm and will combine small sided games and some fitness based activities.

Women also get the chance to develop their football skills, with Amber who is a Football Coach and Fitness Instructor. The sessions are open to women aged over 16 years and will be free on their first time.

Philip Stanley, Community Sports Officer for Better, West Oxfordshire said “We have created a football-based fitness project that uses our expertise in fitness and football, to create sessions we know women who have played football before will enjoy, as well as women who have never kicked a ball before.”
