Exciting improvements coming to Lewisham leisure centres
We're investing over £6 million across our Lewisham leisure centres to create even better spaces for fitness, family fun and community wellbeing.
The first round of major improvement works will be taking place at Forest Hill Pools and Glass Mill Leisure Centre, bringing upgraded gyms, brand-new soft play facilities, enhanced customer areas and improved experiences for everyone who visits.
While these exciting improvements are underway, both centres will remain open, and we are committed to keeping disruption to a minimum.
Project Timelines
We're planning to start improvement works at Forest Hill Pools in July 2026 and Glass Mill Leisure Centre in August 2026, with both projects expected to be completed by December 2026.
To minimise disruption, all works will be carried out in phases, meaning both centres will remain open while improvements are taking place.
We'll share regular updates throughout the project and let customers know if there are any changes to the planned schedule.
What's changing?
Forest Hill Pools
Through a £1.4 million investment, Forest Hill Pools will receive:
- A redesigned entrance and reception area
- A brand-new soft play facility
- An expanded gym with new state-of-the-art equipment
- A new fitness studio
- Improved customer flow throughout the centre
Please note: during this time, the main front entrance will be closed. YOu can access the centre via the side entrance. There will be directional signs and staff on hand to help you get to the right place.
Gym
With this investment, we're carrying out a range of fantastic upgrades. From expanding the gym space to allow for more capacity and better flow, to installing brand new cardio, strength and functional Technogym equipment for you to enjoy.
Fitness Class Studio
We're also creating a new and improved Fitness Class Studio, where you can enjoy a range of group exercise classes, such as Tai Chi, Yoga, Group Cycle, Zumba and much more.
Soft Play
For families, we're installing a brand new Soft Play facility. From a dedicated under 2's area to slides and sensory zone as well as an outdoor play area - there'll be plenty of ways for children to learn, have fun and get active with our brand new children's facility.
Why are these improvements being made?
These improvements form part of our ongoing investment in leisure facilities across Lewisham, helping us create modern, welcoming spaces that better meet the needs of our communities.
By expanding and enhancing our facilities, we'll be able to offer more opportunities for people of all ages to be active, have fun and improve their wellbeing. From larger gyms and new fitness spaces to exciting family attractions such as soft play, these upgrades will help us deliver an even better experience for members, customers and local residents for years to come.
What to expect during the improvement works
While work is taking place, you may notice some temporary changes to centre layouts, relocated facilities and occasional disruption as different areas are upgraded. Our teams will do everything possible to minimise any inconvenience and keep you informed throughout the project.
The result will be facilities that offer even more for our communities, including larger gyms with new equipment, brand-new soft play experiences, dedicated party spaces and improved environments designed to make every visit more enjoyable.
Thank you for your patience and support as we invest in the future of leisure in Lewisham.
Keeping you moving
We want to make sure you can continue enjoying your activities and workouts throughout the improvement programme.
While some areas of the centres may be temporarily relocated or unavailable during the works, both centres will remain open and our teams will be on hand to support you. Members will also have access to alternative leisure facilities during periods of disruption, helping you stay active while improvements are completed. Swimming pools and other wet-side facilities will remain open and unaffected throughout the project, and we'll continue to share updates as works progress.
