City Splashpads and Paddling Pools Open for Summer After Winter Maintenance
Cambridge’s much‑loved splashpads and paddling pools are officially open for the summer season, following a significant programme of winter maintenance and preparation carried out by our teams. As temperatures climbed over the May bank holiday weekend, families were already making the most of these treasured community spaces.
This year, Cherry Hinton Water Play Area, Lammas Land Paddling Pool, Sheep’s Green Learner Pool, and both the Abbey and Coleridge Splashpads are now fully open and ready for residents to enjoy throughout the warmer months. These sites play a huge role in providing free, accessible outdoor water play for children and families across the city, and they remain some of the most popular seasonal facilities we operate on behalf of Cambridge City Council.
Behind the scenes, our teams have put in a tremendous amount of work to get everything ready in time for the early heatwave. Winter maintenance included deep cleaning, repainting, safety checks, pump and filtration servicing, and ensuring all water features were operating at their best. Thanks to the dedication of staff across multiple centres, we were able to open ahead of schedule and welcome families just as the sunshine arrived.
We’re also excited to share that the King’s Hedges Splashpad is currently undergoing renovation, including the installation of brand‑new play features. This upgrade will refresh the space and enhance the experience for local families. We’ll confirm an opening date as soon as the works are complete, and we’re looking forward to unveiling the improvements later in the season.
These outdoor water spaces are an important part of Cambridge’s summer offer, giving children a safe, fun and free way to stay active and cool off. We can’t wait to see how many families, community groups and young people make use of them over the coming months. With the warm weather on the way, we’re expecting another busy and vibrant season across all sites.
If you visit one of the splashpads or pools this summer, don’t forget to share your photos and tag us, we love seeing how these spaces bring the community together.
