We are delighted to announce that the GLL Sport Foundation Rhodri Morgan Award for 2026 has been awarded to A’leiyah James‑Sweetman.

A’leiyah is a current Welsh and British Champion and European Bronze Medallist, whose dedication and achievements continue to make her a standout young athlete. She trains locally at Star Hub with Hoshi Karate Club, where her commitment, discipline and character have set her apart over many years.

Hoshi Karate Club shared the following tribute:

“A’leiyah has trained with us for many years and is a beautiful, intelligent young athlete who has achieved so much for her age. She gives 110% every time she trains and is currently Welsh Champion for the fourth/fifth year running.
Her success reflects not only her own dedication, but also the incredible commitment of her mum, Carly, who supports her at competitions across the country.

Despite her achievements, A’leiyah remains humble, kind and supportive, always willing to help others. She is a loyal student and truly one of a kind. This award is so well deserved.”

The Rhodri Morgan Award recognises not only sporting excellence but also the values of commitment, humility and community spirit – all of which A’leiyah exemplifies. We are extremely proud to celebrate her success and look forward to following the next chapter of her sporting journey.
