Meet the team at Newquay Leisure World

Behind every great team is a  strong leader. Newquay Leisure World is managed by Amelia Kitchen and since her appointment last summer there are starting to be some really positive improvements.   She is often behind the scenes and around the wider partnership so here is your chance to find out some fun facts about Amelia:

1. What is your favorite sport? I’m a keen sportswoman and enjoy a game of tennis, running and the gym.

2. What animal would you be if you could choose? Not sure if this counts but I’d be a Dragon as I have Welsh blood

3. Random fact of the day? The beautiful peacocks are regular visitors to the centre and we do keep an eye on them to make sure they don’t go for a quick bathe in the pool, but did you know that these boys are also watching us with their elaborate fan of feathers having as many as 130 eye spots

4. What’s your biggest achievement? Proud mum of three lovely children

5. What’s your favorite thing about working at Newquay Leisure world? There is never a dull day at Newquay Leisure World, we are working hard to improve the centre and I enjoy the challenge even when things are tough. We are a relatively new management team but together we are starting to make a positive impact.

6. How long have you worked for Newquay Leisure World? I have worked in leisure in Cornwall since graduating from Loughborough University, I grew up in Penzance so I understand what its like to live and work in Cornwall. I started as a community sports development officer with Kerrier District Council and started working in leisure operations after I had my youngest daughter in 2007. I have managed Helston Sports Centre, St Austell Leisure Centre and moved across to Newquay Leisure World in the early summer of 2021. I am now a Senior General Manager with GLL which involves being the General Manager at Newquay Leisure World but also supporting my team of managers across the West of the Cornwall Partnership – it’s a tough job, but very rewarding!

I am a real advocate for women in sport so leading the team at Newquay Leisure World provides a great opportunity to inspire other women and girls to follow their dreams and aim high.
