Sovereign Centre announces introduction of new ANPR Parking System

The Sovereign Centre is introducing a new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system in its car park as part of a wider effort to improve parking management, enhance safety, and ensure fair use of all spaces. The updated system will be rolled out over the coming weeks and will replace the current manual approach to monitoring parking.

Under the new arrangements, centre members will still receive free parking, but to ensure their visit is recorded correctly, they will be required to enter their vehicle registration number on a tablet located at reception each time they visit. This simple process is designed to maintain the benefits of membership while allowing the centre to keep more accurate records of car park usage.

A new tariff will apply to all other users of the car park:

0–2 hours – £2
2–4 hours – £5
4–6 hours – £10
All day – £25

The decision to upgrade to an ANPR system follows ongoing challenges with vehicles parking on double yellow lines and in disabled bays without authorisation. These issues have created difficulties for visitors who rely on accessible parking and have affected the safe and efficient use of the centre’s facilities. By automating monitoring and enforcement, the new system will help ensure that bays are used correctly and that the car park remains safe and accessible for everyone.

In preparation for the change, the Sovereign Centre will introduce a bedding-in period during which the focus will be on informing and educating users rather than issuing enforcement notices. Clear signage, staff guidance, and regular reminders will be provided to ensure all visitors understand the new procedures before full enforcement begins.

The Sovereign Centre encourages all members and visitors to familiarise themselves with the updated system and thanks everyone for their cooperation as these improvements are introduced.
