Southbury Leisure Centre Selected to Host New NBA‑Backed ‘Court Time’ Basketball Programme
Better is proud to announce its partnership with the Mayor of London’s office, Basketball England and the NBA to help grow the game of basketball across the capital. As part of this exciting citywide initiative, Southbury Leisure Centre has been chosen as one of only six London venues to deliver the brand‑new ‘NBA Court Time’ junior coaching programme.
The collaboration comes as London prepares to welcome the first NBA game in the UK since 2019, with the Memphis Grizzlies facing the Orlando Magic at The O2 Arena on Sunday 18 January. Alongside the game, the Mayor of London and the NBA have been working together on several long‑term basketball legacy projects, including a London-wide coaches’ training programme which has already qualified over 200 new coaches in the past two years.
Affordable Basketball for young people across London
‘NBA Court Time’ is one of the key legacy initiatives linked to the upcoming NBA game and aims to provide high‑quality, affordable basketball opportunities for young Londoners. GLL will be working exclusively with the NBA to deliver 12 weeks of £1 junior basketball sessions, creating paid coaching roles for graduates of the London Coaches Programme.
The sessions are designed for children and young people aged 5–15, with bookings available via the Better UK app or at better.org.uk
