Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Better Partnership Sparks Rapid Growth in Women and Girls’ Sport at Southbury Leisure Centre
A dynamic new partnership between the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Better, the UK’s largest charitable social enterprise, is driving a surge in opportunities for women and girls in Enfield. Since launching in February at Southbury Leisure Centre, the programme has seen remarkable growth, with participation rising week after week.
The initiative was created to widen access to football, fitness, and community sport for women and girls of all ages and abilities. What began as a small, local offer has quickly evolved into a vibrant weekly hub, with sessions now attracting a diverse mix of participants, from complete beginners to those returning to sport after time away.
Coaches from the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation have been working closely with Better’s community sport team to deliver inclusive, high‑quality sessions that focus on skill development, confidence building, and enjoyment. The programme blends football training with wider physical activity and social engagement, ensuring that every participant feels supported, encouraged, and part of a growing community.
Please see video linked below of the Women and Girls Hub which captures the energy and impact of the programme, featuring footage from training sessions, participant interviews, and reflections from coaches about the importance of creating accessible, empowering spaces for women and girls in sport.
Both Better and the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation have expressed their commitment to growing the partnership even further. Plans are already being explored to expand the range of activities, introduce additional sessions, and create more pathways for women and girls to stay active throughout the year.
With participation continuing to rise and community interest building, the collaboration stands as a strong example of how local partnerships can open doors, inspire confidence, and strengthen opportunities for women and girls across Enfield.
