Kings Hall Redevelopment

Hackney Council is now beginning the exciting redevelopment of Kings Hall Leisure Centre that will restore and improve the centre for generations to come. 

To make these essential improvements, Kings Hall Leisure Centre closed from 1pm on 24 December 2025. In January 2026, we’ll be removing equipment and preparing the building before construction begins in February 2026.  

What's happening

  • New communal spaces 
  • A new accessible entrance onto Clapton Square, replacing the existing entrance onto Lower Clapton Road 
  • A refurbished pool 
  • New sauna and steam room 
  • A new teaching pool with a movable floor in place of the existing sports hall 
  • A large fitness area  
  • Increased studio space 
  • A new 2-court sports hall 
  • New changing facilities 
  • Refurbishment of all other existing facilities 

Membership Access

We are exploring options to provide temporary health and fitness facilities in the east of Hackney, so you can continue to stay active locally. 

  • All Health and Fitness members have been emailed to discuss your membership to keep you moving. 
  • All Better Swim School members have also received an email from our swim team to let you know how we will be supporting your child to continue their lessons without any disruption to their learning. 
  • For all customers with Healthier Together Hackney appointments, a member of the team has been in touch to discuss your scheduled appointments.
