Residents in Richmond will soon have easier access to potentially life-saving health screening, with a specialist cancer research unit set to visit Pools on the Park this November as part of the national BEST4 clinical trial.

The mobile screening unit will be based at Pools on the Park from 9th to 13th November, offering screening for oesophageal cancer through the BEST4 study, led by researchers working with NHS GP surgeries across the country. Local residents who meet the trial criteria will be invited directly by their GP practice to take part.

The BEST4 trial is investigating new ways to identify people who may be at greater risk of developing oesophageal cancer, helping to improve early detection and potentially save lives through earlier diagnosis and treatment. More information about the study can be found on the BEST4 website.

By hosting the screening unit at Pools on the Park, Better is helping to make important health interventions more accessible in a trusted community setting. The self-contained mobile unit will provide a convenient location for invited participants while remaining easily accessible for residents travelling from across the borough.

This initiative highlights the important role community leisure facilities can play in supporting wider health and wellbeing, extending beyond physical activity to help connect residents with preventative healthcare opportunities.

Residents do not need to book through Better. Invitations to participate in the trial will be arranged directly through participating NHS GP surgeries.
