After months of rehearsals members of Sutton Dance Academy’s Adult Contemporary Class and the newly formed Youth Dance Company took to the stage at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End. 24 SDA students performed alongside 8 other dance schools in the showcase, organised by Class Talent LTD, on 1st October 2017.

The day began early at Sutton Sports Village where students met together for their coach ride into the city. A banner was made for the back window of the coach and there was a lot of excitement as parents and family members waved everyone off.

A nice early arrival at the theatre meant a quick coffee shop breakfast and then on to register with the theatre staff. Being the home of Phantom of the Opera meant that SDA students lived like true performers using the official dressing rooms and being lucky enough to see the good luck messages and photos left around the mirrors for the Phantom cast.

All those taking part were involved in a group warm up on stage with West End star Gary Watson and then onto dress rehearsals before the big show in the evening. Sutton Dance Academy students performed a contemporary piece, which included super-sized vibrant red ribbons, set to music called The Greatest by Sia, and a spine chilling, yet very funky, Zombie-Medley to Heads Will Roll and Thriller – with Zombie costumes to match! Students really turned their performances up a notch for the evening show and audience members were completely wowed by the standard of their work.

An audience member said- "Everyone had the most fantastic day – the show ended and immediately everyone wanted to do it all over again! Same time, same place next year?
