New Senior Programme this September
New Senior Programme launches at Abraham Moss Leisure Centre this September
Abraham Moss Leisure Centre is launching an expanded Senior Programme this September, bringing together a fantastic range of activities designed to help older adults stay active, improve their health and wellbeing, and meet new people.
Running throughout the week, the new programme offers something for everyone – whether you want to improve your fitness, try a new sport, enjoy a swim or simply become more active in a friendly and welcoming environment.
The weekly timetable includes Chair Based Exercise, Aqua Aerobics, Walking Football, Pickleball, Tai Chi, Circuits, Table Tennis, Walking Cricket, Yoga and Badminton, alongside dedicated Senior Gym Sessions and Swim for 60+ sessions
Something for every ability
One of the main aims of the new programme is to make being active accessible, enjoyable and social.
For those looking for a gentler introduction to exercise, Chair Based Exercise uses seated and supported movements to help improve mobility, strength and flexibility. Tai Chi Basics provides another lower-impact option, using controlled movements to develop balance, coordination and overall wellbeing, while Yoga Basics introduces accessible movements designed to support flexibility, mobility and relaxation.
For anyone looking for something a little more energetic, our new 50+ Circuits session combines a variety of exercises to help improve strength, cardiovascular fitness, balance and everyday functional movement.
There are also plenty of opportunities to enjoy sport. Walking Football and Walking Cricket offer adapted versions of two familiar favourites, while our Senior Pickleball, Table Tennis and Badminton drop-in sessions provide a great opportunity to play, learn and socialise with others.
Get active in the gym or the pool
he programme isn't limited to classes and sports.
Dedicated Senior Gym Sessions take place three times each week, providing an opportunity to exercise alongside other older adults in our Health and Fitness area.
For those who prefer the water, Swim for 60+ sessions run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, while women-only Aqua Aerobics sessions are available throughout the week.
Aqua Aerobics provides a fun, low-impact workout using the resistance of the water, making it a great way to improve cardiovascular fitness and strength while reducing impact on the joints.
More than just excercise
We want Abraham Moss Leisure Centre to be a place where older adults from across the local community can feel comfortable being active.
The new programme has therefore been designed not only around physical activity, but also around social connection. Whether you're joining a team sport, attending the same weekly gym session or trying something completely new, the programme provides plenty of opportunities to meet people and become part of the Abraham Moss community.
And you don't need to already be fit or experienced to get involved. Many of the sessions are ideal for beginners and people returning to exercise after some time away.
Join our Senior Membership
All activities within the programme are included as part of our Senior Membership, available for £36 per month. Every session can also be attended on a Pay As You Go basis, giving customers the flexibility to take part without committing to a membership.
With activities available every weekday and options ranging from relaxing Tai Chi to energetic circuits and team sports, September is the perfect time to try something new.
Come along, get active and discover the new Senior Programme at Abraham Moss Leisure Centre.
