Team England National Sports Open Weekend
On the 18th and 19th of July, Dorking Sports Centre and other GLL venues nationwide will be holding Team England National Sports Open Weekend.
Over the weekend we will be offering a wide range of Commonwealth inspired sports such as badminton, swimming, basketball and weightlifting.
Some of these sessions will be free of charge to give you the opportunity to try sports you haven't before and experience the benefit of playing a sport with those in your community. To encourage this, when you book our sports hall sessions you'll be booking one place on the court, so do encourage friends to book a place too or play with others from the community.
Detailed below are the sessions that we will be offering over the weekend.

Open Day Foundation Swim School and Water Safety Taster Session
Saturday 12:30-13:00
Duration: 30 minutes
Description: Jump into safety and confidence— Join us for your child's initial assessment in joining our Swim School and get an introduction to water safety ahead of summer for free! Suitable for 4 years and above, for those just starting out on their learn to swim journey
Open Day Adult Swimming Lesson Beginner/Improver
Saturday 12:15-13:00
Duration: 45 minutes
Description: An adult swimming class for learners and improvers. Getting in for the first time or refreshing and improving your swimming skills.
Open Day Basketball – Juniors
Sunday 15:30-17:00
Duration: 45 minutes
Description: Whether your child is picking up a ball for the first time or already loves the game, our open day is a great chance to Shoot, Pass, and Play while learning new skills and have fun on the court. These sessions will introduce the basics of basketball in an energetic and supportive environment. Suitable for ages 5+ years.
Open Day Social Badminton Club – Adults

Description: Our Adult social badminton sessions are a great way to have fun and stay healthy whilst making new friends. Whether you’re picking up a racket for the first time or just looking for a casual hit, social badminton is the perfect way to stay active and connected. Equipment will be provided, 16+ Years.

Open Day Social Pickleball Club – Adults

Description: Try our social pickleball sessions, a fun way to stay active and meet new people. With its easy-to-learn rules and sociable pace, pickleball is perfect for all ages and abilities. Come along and discover why it’s one of the fastest-growing sports around! Equipment will be provided, 16+ Years.
Open Day Social Basketball Club – Adults

Description: Try our Adult social basketball sessions, where you can enjoy the game in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just looking to shoot some hoops for fun, there’s a place for you on the court.

Open Day Gym Taster Session

Duration: 60 minutes
Description: Kickstart your fitness journey with a free trial of the gym. Staff will be on hand to demonstrate machines and advise on the best ways to achieve your fitness goals.
Open Day Adult & Junior Gym Taster Session
Saturday 12:00-13:00
Sunday 10:30-11:30
Duration: 60 minutes
Description: Kickstart yours and your child’s fitness journey with a free trial of the gym. Staff will be on hand to demonstrate machines and advise on the best ways to achieve your fitness goals.

Open Day Group Fitness Master Class
Saturday 13:00-14:00
Duration: 60 minutes
Description: Not sure what is involved in a Fitness Class, can't decide which class to try first, then why not try this master class, it will allow you to experience classes, Aerobics, Step and Core.
Open Day Strength and Conditioning Master Class
Sunday 12:00-12:30 Women Only Lifting, 12:45-13:15 Men Only
Duration: 30 mins
Description: Build muscle and feel better with our Strength and Conditioning classes, help you with form and confidence.
Open Day Mind and Body Fitness Master Class
Saturday 14:15-14:45 This will be a Menopause and Strength Class
Sunday 10:00-11:00 This will be a Yoga class
Duration: 30mins or 60mins
Description: Feel better inside and out with our Mind and Body group fitness classes. Build your strength and flexibility in our lower-impact classes like Menopause and Strength and feel revived and relaxed with our mindfulness-focused sessions, such as Yoga.
Open Day Cardio Master Class
Saturday 15:00-15:30 Boxfit
Duration: 30mins
Description: Get your heart pumping with our fast-paced, high-energy Cardio classes. This class will be a trial of our Boxfit classes.
Our additional sessions for the weekend which will be bookable 5 days before the event to introduce you to some of our bookable summer sessions this year.
Soft Play
Saturday 14:00-16:00
Duration: 50 minutes
Description: We’ll have our popular soft play set up with bouncy castle. Suitable for children up to 7 years.
Family Fun Swim
Saturday 13:00-14:00
No matter your fitness ability, our family fun sessions are perfect if you're looking to build your confidence, work on your strokes, float away any stress, or just simple want to enjoy a more casual swim with your family and friends.
Pool Inflatable (Inflatable Zone)
Saturday 15:30-17:30
Duration: 60 minutes
Will you be able to triumph and complete the inflatable obstacle course without falling in? With a range of challenges and obstacles to throw you off track, you’ll have a great time navigating your way through the course, laid out in our main pool. We do advise a full costume or rash vest whilst using the pool inflatable.
Suitable 8-16 Years
Alongside our scheduled sessions we will have games in our walkway, joining offers and challenges and we will have face painting and temporary tattoos 10:00-11:00 and 11:15-12:30.
What to bring: Wear comfortable clothing suitable for physical activity. Equipment is provided. Please bring a towel and water.
Health Conditions: Let a staff member know about any health conditions before participating.
New to the Centre: If you’re unfamiliar with any activity or equipment, our team is here to help. Please warm up before any physical activity and ask for guidance if needed.
