Main Pool Temporary Closure at Better, East End Pool

In partnership with Newcastle City Council, we will be carrying out several development and refurbishment projects at Better, East End Pool over the next 12 months.

PHASE ONE: COMPLETED
The fitness changing rooms have been refurbished and new Technogym group cycles have been installed.

PHASE TWO: STUDIO POOL REFURBISHMENT
The studio pool closed for refurbishment works on Monday 26th March and the works were estimated to last for eight weeks.  Unless we incur any issues during the final stages of the works, the studio pool will reopen three weeks earlier than planned on Monday 30th April.

PHASE THREE: MAIN POOL TEMPORARY CLOSURE
On Monday 30th April works in the main pool area will begin and these are expected to continue for four months. These works will include:

  • Permanent closure of the leisure water and toddler pool from Monday 30th April as we finalise plans  with Newcastle City Council to introduce a new dry, family friendly product in the area
  • Refurbishing the main pool plant to make it more energy efficient

A revised programme is in place to move swimming sessions to the studio pool and to limit disruption as much as possible. Better swim lessons will continue at their normal times and for other sessions please check the centre timetable before your visit.

Swim Only members are reminded that they can also use all other Better swimming pools at West Denton and Gosforth Leisure Centre as part of your membership.

FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS

The works to improve the centre will continue during 2018 and we thank you for your patience while these projects take place.  We're also excited to let you know that our new 'Gremlin' inflatable is also coming soon.  This will be a brand new feature when the main pool reopens for the summer holidays.
