British Blind Sport delivered a sport taster event specifically for people living with sight loss at Better Energise Leisure Centre on Saturday 11th May.

British Blind Sport is the national charity that supports blind and partially sighted people to get active and play sport.

Have a Go Day events have been run successfully across the country since 2016, supporting over 900 people with a visual impairment to get active, with those attending enjoying a range of inclusive sport and physical activities delivered by professional coaches.

The event in York, delivered in partnership with Better Energise Leisure Centre and the Wilberforce Trust, gave an opportunity for over 30 participants of a wide range of ages to try Archery, Goalball, Golf, Climbing, Boccia and Guide Running.

In addition to trying new sports, attendees benefitted from meeting other people living with sight loss taking their first steps towards living an active lifestyle.

Following the event, British Blind Sport supports attendees to continue to play sport regularly at local clubs and sporting facilities. With Climbability, Sportsability, Gymability and Swimability all being available at Energise, participants were eager to attend regular sessions following the taster day.
