Bath and Keynsham Leisure Centres to support Restart a Heart Campaign
Restart a Heart is a nationwide initiative dedicated to improving survival rates from out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. Throughout October, RLSS UK, as long-term partners of the Resuscitation Council UK (drivers of the annual Restart a Heart campaign), ask their operators, lifesaving clubs and the wider leisure industry to mark the campaign by delivering CPR skills and defibrillator awareness to their customers and the public on Thursday 16th October 2025.
A staggering 80% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests take place in the home. CPR is a skill for everyone, yet almost half of UK adults (43 percent) have never learned these techniques. Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces the chance of survival from cardiac arrest by 10%.
This Thursday 16th October, the public can learn lifesaving CPR skills at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre and take part in the Restart a Heart activities.
“Learning CPR is one of the most powerful skills a person can have,” says David Blake, Assistant Manager at Bath Sports and Leisure Centre and National Pool Lifeguard Assessor. “In a cardiac emergency, every second counts. The ability to act quickly and confidently can mean the difference between life and death.”
David is a strong advocate for the RLSS UK's Restart a Heart campaign, which takes place on 16th October. The initiative aims to improve survival rates from out-of-hospital cardiac arrests by encouraging leisure centres to deliver CPR training and defibrillator awareness to the public.
“As leisure professionals, we’re in a unique position to empower our communities with life-saving knowledge,” David adds. “Restart a Heart is more than a campaign-it’s a chance to give back and potentially save lives.”
Bath Sports and Leisure Centre will be hosting CPR awareness sessions open to all ages and abilities.
Keynsham Leisure Centre will be delivering CPR themed swimming lessons throughout the week.
